As a male reader who typically reads Clancy, Thor, Flynn, etc. I am a voracious reader knocked out Deathly Hallows in one sitting , so I took a chance on one of my wife's books. However this book was the first romance book I had ever liked and really like the great writing, and excellent story line.

Since then I have read over titles, and still rank this as the gold standard to compare all other romance books Roberts, Carr, Sparks, Macomber, etc. I hope that this series makes it to the big screen. This story has been done before in many different ways. Here we have a wealthy man Jack who wants to find a woman who doesn't want him for his money. Then we have a struggling single mother Jessie who is a waitress at Denny's and wants a man with money. Of course, but cute none-the-less. Jack is a likeable down-to-earth guy and Jessie has more walls up than a castle. Their interactions make the book worth reading.

The genuine honesty in both characters is sweet. It's a clean love story, albeit unbelievable. I first read the reviews, but then I bought the book anyway because I'd already read 5 in the series by mistake, but oh well and I like Bybee's writing and story and character development.

I read this book and loved it so much, I started at the beginning and read it all over again! With the same feelings I had before. I think I'm in love with Jack!!! Yeah, he lied to Jessie but he had lots of reasons to. Not Quite Dating eBook: Catherine Bybee: Kindle Store

When an author puts together a story, it has to have logic behind the psychology of the characters' makeup. Bybee's characters make perfect sense to me. I read romance for the HEAs, honestly. Life is hard enough because there are very few HEAs in anyone's life, and many times there are none. So I buy romance novels, I attempt writing them I have 2 complete drafts and still working on them, learning from good romance authors still , and I've never had so much fun in my life. This is my first time at reading the writings of Ms Catherine Bybee.

Very well written sweet romance story. I loved the main characters Jessie and Jack. One minute it had me laughing the next upset even letting a couple of tears roll down my cheeks. Reading about or watching people fall in love has always warmed my heart. For real love is the best feeling of all no matter your age, who, or what you love!! Its the greatest feeling ever!! Great book and wonderful characters.

Not Quite Dating

I bought this because I've seen this series dominate the Kindle Top for longer than I can recall and thought I'd see why. Sometimes when I grab from the Top I'm disappointed, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and if the rest in the series are this good I completely understand the popularity. The hero is filthy rich and wants a woman to love him for himself. The heroine is a single mother who has been burned before and wants a man who is financially well off, which I didn't like at first because it made her seem incredibly shallow, but further reading reveals she's really not shallow at all.

The hero pretends to work at the hotel his family actually owns and builds a relationship with her, slowly working his way into her and her son's heart while keeping his true identity secret. One person found this helpful. She is still struggling. Jack is a millionaire, pretending to be a normal guy working as a waiter. Jessie wants the stability of a wealthy man, while Jack wants a woman who is not after his money.

I found Jessie to be a little whiny and not relatable, but I did like Jake and the amazing way he connected with Danny. So if you just want some light reading this is a book for you. Awesome telling of the development of a lasting romance. Great characters, although The snap of the heroine proved a bit beyond belief. The author fully committed to the storyline resulting in a refreshing true romance novel.

My only criticism is that authors consistently throw in sensuality as if romance is not complete without it. Fortunately, this author limits graphic descriptions to two scenes. The scenes don't result in a deal-breaker, but it cost a 5-star rating. See all 2, reviews. It's a cute interesting love story. It is set around Christmas time so it was extra special to listen to it during this time.

I'm happy to see this is a series! I hope the next book is about Jessie's sister. She was just ok. She needs to really work on the male voices. Hopefully the next book in the series will have a different narrator. Very cute contemporary romance story similar in style to Susan Mallery. This story was fun. The author engaged my imagination from the first chapter.

It is a light read, We need books like this to take you out of heavy novels at times. I really liked all these characters. The encounters were believeable. The narration was superb I recommend this book if you want a story that is interesting and takes you to that feel good place.

Zombies on the Black Rose Blog

Bybee for perfect timing A chance meeting between a single mother and a cowboy changes their lives Amy McFadden didn't do a bad job of narrating, but she doesn't do male voices well. I didn't feel she detracted from the story, although she did not enhance it. I would recommend it, if your looking for a sweet romance. It's nice for a change of pace. I figured it would be the usual formula for a romance novel The heroine was a little too whiney for my tastes.

Regarding the Audible Narration: I have listened to many audible books The narrator made the female love interest's voice "lispy" at times which was distracting and a bit confusing because it made her sound too much like her sister's voice. The male voices were mediocre at best and the Texas draw left much to be desired. A very sweet well paced plot with an interesting premise about love and money.

Very engaging characters and wonderful secondary characters. The story is about a very rich guy who hides his wealth to find a woman who loves him and not just his money. He meets Jessie, a poor waitress and single mom and he is quickly quite taken by her. He hides his wealth from her and pretends to have a temporary job at the hotel that in actuality he owns. Jessie's experience with love was from watching her mother constantly falling in love with losers as well as Jessie's own share of bad experiences.

Her only desire is to provide her son with a better life than the one she had.

Of course, she thinks what they need is a rich stable man not a poor guy or a dreamer. She resists Jack's charms and decides all she wants with him is a platonic relationship. Jack is wonderful, charming, caring, funny and generous to both Jessie and her son. All goes to hell in a basket because of his deceit. I think the end was somewhat rushed and actually would like to see a sequel. I actually finished this and it was sweet.

I would probably give it 3. The narrator was good but not great with southern accents. I am from the south and I can promise you, we don't sound so dumb. I enjoyed this like I enjoy cupcakes. I don't focus on why I'm eating it or what it'll do to me, I just dig in. Lonely housewife fodder but it has likeable characters and you don't roll your eyes until the middle when they like each other but just can't seem to connect because, you know, romantic drama writing devices.

I would recommend to someone who always wanted to be Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Also men who want to be Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. What disappointed you about Not Quite Dating? The story was so simple it almost felt like I was listening to a kids book. I really wanted to like this book because I was interested in the second novel of this series.

This is my first listening experience with this author. The narrator was a major dissapointment. I've listened to several books but this is the first time that I felt that the narrator really hurt the listening experience. What reaction did this book spark in you? Disappointment because I was looking forward to this series. This book was delightful. It had everything I was looking for, for a relaxing non nail biting book. I do enjoy those other books but every once in awhile it is nice to just listen.

This is a great first book in a romantic series. The narration is average, but the story between a rich man and a single mom is very cute. Can hardly wait for more in the series.
